Baden Remembered Guestbook

1977 1982

A great big "Guten tag and Wie Gehts!" to all my fellow RCR compatriots ! It was an honour and a priviledge to serve with all of you during my years in Germany. I'd like to also send along a tip of the beret to the many others who I shared an experience of a life time with.

Change was definitely inevitable during those days, but with it always came new possibilities.

Great coats on - Great Coats off !!

Years and memories fade somewhat, but never will I forget the true sense of community that I discovered there. All while riding the crest of youth and duty to our families and nation. Having been afforded the opportunity to work, play and live with so many talented and energetic people still stays with me to this day.

Should anyone reading this remember me by name, (You surely won't recognize me by stature now !)Please take a moment to send an e-mail my way. It'd be great to catch up with you.

A few thoughts before I go;
1) I think Major J.P. Hill understood leadership. He knew it came at a price.
2) The gum on the floor of the movie theatre added a certain "charm" to the overall experience.
3) I learned a few "shortcuts" on the morning runs behind the "french parking lot"
4) When I hear the words "Snow Ball" I still start packing stuff to this day. My wife of 20 years having learned this from me, will from time to time use it as a motivational tool. Get your butt in gear is another.
5) Due greatly to political dithering, each one of us knew how to do everything with nothing and it worked most every time. That always amazed me!
6) The autobahn was an exercise in "Oh my God ! I can't believe I'm doing this speed!
7) I hold it soley responsible for the speeding tickets that I was "awarded" upon my return to Canada.
8) Reliance on another was an accepted norm, and never came at a price not worth paying.
9) It was never about the glory ! It was always about the competition, duty and responsibility entrusted in all of us.
10) Given the chance, I'd want to do it all over again. And, I'd ask the kind permission of the same people to join me on my tremendous adventure of '77-'82 !

Thanks for reading, Pro Patria !

Steve
