From August 1968 through November 1969 I was stationed at Karlsruhe, Germany. I was in the U.S. Army. During that time I visited the RCAF installation at or near BadenBaden. Many years later I discoverd I had ancestors that migrated from Buhlertal, Germany (not far from BadenBaden) in 1855. It was while visiting the RCAF that I discovered that all Canadians do not speak French. I really enjoyed the slide show.

Nice to see otheres who have such fond memories of 4 Wing. Was there as a brat from 68-71, with dad Frank. Lived off base in Wintersdorf, Iffezhiem, and some apartment complex in Rastatt! Would go back in a heartbeat! Love to hear from any former classmates( Mrs' Marshall, Dunham(?) and Green), or anyone who misses the place too. Cheers!

I just found your site and it brought back many memories as a "brat".63 to 67 building 39/3.Ages7 to11.My most vivid memories were of the sirens going off at night for tac-eval.My job was to get my father's overnight bag and gas mask and hold the door open for him on his way out.One time I forgot to open the door and he ran into it.I would bet others will remember the klaxons as well.Happy new year and may your God go with you.

Just a quick Hello and a Merry Christmas to everyone. Have been reading all the messages for some time and they bring back better than excellent memories. Lots of names I recognize. I must have been one of the luckier ones. My journey started as an Airforce Brat and we lived in Zweibrucken in 1957 and Baden,58 - 60. Then Marville (Longuyon PMQ G104) 62 - 66. Back to Baden as Militia flyover in 74, and then I joined the Regs. Posted to 3 Mech and 3RCR from 76 - 80, and back again with 2PPCLI from 84 - 88, and K55 in Lahr in 1990. Lived the life you could only dream about and I miss it greatly, like everyone else I read about. Still trying to find/contact Jeannette Genge (Sally Ann 79-80),Mike and Danny Roy, and Gord Gerstheimer. Still have the pictures Tim Greensill sold me, hanging on my wall. How about the RI, wasn't that the place to go. Good memories there Tim. Someday in the afterlife, we'll all have to get together for a big party. Take Care.

Hello everyone, We just spent the weekend in Schwarzach, and as most of you who went back since the closure of the base have noticed, the special atmosphare that used to hang over the aerea when the Canadians were there is gone....... Nevertheless, and this I recommend to anyone who goes back, its really worth it to go for a drink at the Canadian Legion in Söllingen for somehow a part of the spirit that used to be is there.... go and find out. Well to everyone reading this, I wish a nice day!!

It's great coming back to this site from time to time to see who else has signed the guestbook. I think we all agree that the time we were all able to spend in Germany was wonderful. I lived in Baden from 1989 to 1993 with my parents Real and Linda, as well as my brother Marc. My parents are retired and living in Trenton (although both are still keeping quite busy- my father can't stay away from hockey) Marc is a civil engineer working in Toronto with his wife and new baby girl. I am nearly finished law school (it's been a long haul- 7 years of university!) and am looking forward to completing the bar admission courses and articling in Toronto. I intend on practising in the areas of securities and/or cross border mergers and acquisitions. If anyone recognizes me, please drop a line- I'd love to hear from you.

I has nothing to do this evening and thought I would spend a few minutes at the computer so I thought I would browse and see if I can find anything on Baden, well here I am two hours later. I worked at CFNS with a bunch of great people, had a blast and had the greatest boss ever Marcel Gauthier (so sorry to hear about his passing, he was a great guy). My husband Bob was at RAOS Troop he is now posted to Moncton and we myself, Michel and Megan stayed behind in Quebec city as we have been here since we left Germany. I've tried to access service records for my father who is now deceased. He was stationed in Lahr, but I have been unable to locate anything about his time while over there. Any help in this matter will be greatly appreciated. His name was David Arthur Hines, born February 21, 1936 in Canada. He was a member of the 2nd Battallion of the Royal Canadian Regiment.

Great site! Spent time as a brat in 69 (I was 6 months old...no memories) and 74 to 79. Lived in Hugie, Iffy and Weitnung at various times. Went to Baden Junior and Intermediate Schools. Was kinda surprised when I came back that monthly school trips was not the norm here. Remember ski trips to Biberweir Ausrtia in grades 3 and 5, March for Marks, school buses that weren't yellow, falling out of a tree and breaking my arm in grade 3 (well they can't all be good memories) Drop me a line and help me put names to the faces in my class photos. WOW! This is a fabulous site. It is so nice to see that others have such fond memories of Baden as I do!!! I was there from 1973 to 1976 and lived in the base PMQs (building 24). I attended BIS and had Miss Kedde, Mme Ayotte and Mrs Russell for grades 4 through 6. My sister Lisa attend BJS K through grade 2 and my dad Marvin was the base pharmacist. I loved everything about Baden: playing in the old sand quarry and by the WWII bunker in the woods, visiting the Roman ruins near Baden-Baden, riding my bike through Hugie, going to watch the barges on the Rhine, the grade 5 ski trip to Biberweir Austria, the grade 4/6 trip to Hinterlachenbach and Mrs Russell's grade 6 exchange trip to RAF Bruggen. I would love to hear from anyone who knew myself, my sister or my dad from those years! It was a pleasure to browse through the guestbook. The stories of those who contributed brought back many pleasant memories,to all who paused to write THANKS. A special thanks toPaula and Sonja. The memories of Hugie, Rastatt, the baths in Baden-Baden, pizza with a little garlic in Baden and with lots of beer on base. Octoberfest, beerfests, winefests, volksmarching wow! Good friends, WHO ALL HAVE A PLACE IN MY HEART. CFNS the staff and listeners along with fun times working in studio. The ever patient staff at base hospital and the dental clinic. The good people at the Curling club and the golf course. The great crew in the weather office (78-80)and Base OPs. The fantastic group of pilots at 409 Squadron and ground crew it was a pleasure to work as a member of a great team during my time in Germany 84-88. The sounds of preparation sirens, pa announcements, alerts states, jet engines roaring, bunker doors clanging shut, snowball snowball, taped announcements on cfns. The memories flooded back. There are many names I have forgotten but many faces still can be seen in my mind. I thank the many Germans who took us in after that long flight from Canada and welcomed us into their homes and hearts. Frank his great bar in Rastatt along with Ralph on CFNS who contributed many hours to making us feel at home.I love Canada, but CFB Baden, HUGELSHEIM, SINZHEIM and the surrounding area will always have a place in my heart. Danke

I am a Civilian Instructor with 856 Pickering Air Cadet Squadron, and am looking for information on 856 Sqn. when it was in Germany. I understand that it was an offshoot of 800 Sqn., and am looking for info such as the 856 Sqn.'s motto, banner, crest, etc.... As well as any other historical info about the Squadron. I would really appreciate any info. Thanks!

This is a great site. I am originally from Germany and married an 3RCR soldier in 1983 in Germany. We moved to Winnipeg in 1984 where I still am to this day with my daughter Catrina. My ex-husband was Dan Whittaker and I would love to hear from some old RCR friends i.e. Dennis Gauthier, Paul Mason, Rick Hagsma and his roomate in Germany Eric or anybody else that remembers me. Hope to hear from you and how you're doing. ewhittaker@sprint.ca
