Fantastic site. Makes an old sailor/airtype kind of misty. Served in 421sqd.snags and gse(Aeroengine tech.)during 77-82. Then the magic ended and I found myself returned to Sea Kings on the back of a Destroyer.Too bad, but all good things must end. Would like to hear from any body who remembers. My daughters Susie and Sandy would also like to hear from their friends. PS. what a great communications medium

Hi everyone! I was in Baden from 1974 to 79. I am currently traveling between jobs, and happen to be right now in Kaohsiung City, in southern Taiwan. Yes, I have just survived the Taiwan earthquakes, shaking in a 20 storey apartment building 5 times already. I have just completed a 2.5 year contract in a Jeddah, Saudi Arabia military hospital, starting up an running a medical photography section. It would be nice to hear from some of the ol' Baden Brats! This site is great, and was a truly brilliant idea! Ein Prosit!

Alle Kanadier von Hügelsheim und Iffezheim, Thank you for a wonderful time with you. It was great experience, grow up with little window to Canada. That was what I felt by having you around. What stays is the friendship to many of you, and an open door for all of you. My first empressions where given by Raymond and Gaile Randall, 1966-1969,now Kempton,NS, who lived in our House in Hugie. Still stay in good contact, also to their children Heather, Tracy & Greg. Same time i meat with Kelly? Motherwell (must be about 37 of age now) from over the street, son of Caroll & Bruce. Later we moved to Iffezheim and had great relationship to Neale (F104-pilot) & Caroll Nowosad and David "barnie" (Hornet-pilot) & Pam Reid. And to these we still have contact. Some wonderful evenings (Schloss Neuweier) we spent with Mike(officer in the tower) and Merelin Bertrand. If anybody knows about them, it would be great to hear where they are.

This is my second visit to this site, and it still takes my breath away! I'm very grateful to be able to logon and see some of the old hangouts. My family was stationed in Germany over a 10 year period (79-89) and I consider it home. The graduation ceremy at the Kurhaus was something I'll not forget. I did go back for a visit, and wish I hadn't. It was during a time when the base was COMPLETELY vacated. It was really quite disturbing and not at all what I want to remember of the VERY good times I had there. I want to say hello to all my long lost friends. Feel free to touch base!

Boy, does this bring back a lot of memories! Made me think of all the friends and good times that were had in Baden!! I was fortunate enough to get two chances since we were posted there from 1974-78 and then again in 1982-87. Great idea to start a site so that we can get in contact with old friends! PS If anyone wants to get in contact with my parents, Dick & Henny, or my sister, Charlotte and brother Tim, just drop me a note and I'll pass it on.

I was researching 422 Squadron when I came across this site. I was stationed at 4 Wing with 422 Squadron, 53 to 54, the very early days. Germany was still an occupied country when I arrived. I have many fond memories of the station, the people, and the country. Any of you from my era may remember WC Bev Christmas, station commander and Ken Ball, who really ran the place. Somewhere I may have photographs of 4 Wing as it appeared in 1953. And some of the radio station CRBS as it was called then. When I locate the photos I will scan and upload them to the site so all you youngsters can get a glimpse of the old days.

I remember both Baden (as a service member) and Lahr (as a PMQ brat) fondly. Wish I could have stayed half as long as my dad.

And I thought a quick search of "Baden Senior High" would only take up a couple minutes of my time...now 2 hours and many e-mails later I find myself immersed in memories. We were in Iffezheim for 10 years, 66-76, while my father worked with OFTT (flight simulator) I finished my grade 12 at BSS and then had to go to Quebec for college. Now its been 20 years in Edmonton, same wife, same kids...but hey, now they are old enough to travel too... Maybe a trip back in time for Dad is in order. Hello to all of you future finders of the "Baden remmembered" site...hope you enjoy it as much as I did! Good work Webmaster!

The best 5 years of my life, 78 - 83. This is a great site, would like to see more names from the late 70's & early 80's. Was with the RCR on the North Marge 78 - 80. Would be interested in hearing from any of the old gang, Bruce Hubbert, John Jackson, Karen Scott, Dave Bloundeau, Ron Briggs. We had some great times at the Room International.

I played hockey all over Europe from peewee (4 yrs) and one year of Bantam. My dad Frank was in the airforce. I played minor soccer and was a member of the swim team for 4 yrs. I also was involved with Cubs and them Boy Scouts. I attended the elementary school and 1 yr of High School Gr 8. Anyone who remembers me feel free to email. This site was recommended by my dad, and it sure brought back some memories. I remember the Mokado's, Middleton's, McCullough's who I again met in Cold Lake. I also remember when Prince Phillip came to present the squadron colors, and we got out of school and got to shake hands with him. The ski trips were great from school every year also.

Hey! nice work Sonya. We were in Baden 86-90. I worked in SRO and Maintenance, Cyndee worked at Base Headquaters (CR). We lived in Buhlertal (landlords Heinz und Helga Straub). Well done site. I was in Baden from '87 - '91 in the NDT section. Say Hi to your Dad for me Angela. I am now working for a company whose headquarters is in Stuttensee, just outside of Karlsruhe and I have been back to Germany 4 times this past year and each time I manage to visit the base. Lots of fond memories there (but those friggin Snow Ball excercises aren't amongst them). I have to go back to Karlsruhe September 6th, so I'll try to get some cecent pix of the base as it is now, although the complete block from the hospital to the old licensing building and down to the post office and Canex is nothing but a BIG excavated hole. Until next time Tschuess

What a great Site! After being in Lahr for a year and a half I spent the rest of my tour as SIU Section Commander at Baden. As my German wasn't great and I had to meet with German Police and Military Intelligence I remember that the Wing Translator, Mrs. Hornung, was of enormous help to me. My first tour in Germany was at 3 (F) Wing at Zweibruecken at the tender age of 19. I found Germany and the people to be great!

Many thanks for providing this excellent medium for tracking the Baden/4 Wing extended family. We all worked hard, but we also played hard and met many new friends. And in the end, we won the longest war in the 20th century. We fondly remember those who gave their lives in the name of peace, and look forward to renewing contact with those we have not heard from for some time. Auf Wacht & Auf Wiedersehen

I felt ripped off with only a two year tour but I'll always cherish my memories of the Base, Ski week, the international pee-wee hockey tournament, my team mates from 76-77 and 77-78. If you recognize my name please contact me.

Still a great site. This evening I was doing some greeting and translating as the Hügie Bürgermeister and a few others are here for a few days. I was last there in Mar. 1993, but after 4yr. (72-76) with 444Sqn in Lahr and later 4 (80-84) in Baden, plus visits, German is still my second language. I was a ComRadar Sys Tech. BTW, at the Cold Lake International Air Show, 24-25 July, two former CF-104s graced the sky in their civie colours. They are based in the U.S. of A. Spargel Fest - I hope so. Tschuss.

I am still in touch with many people that were in Germany and often wonder what happened to others. I am with 435 Sqn in Winnipeg now on Hercs and have been back to Baden once since leaving that was in 95. I was suprised at how things have changed. Just a comment on the nice job done by Chub Lenz in organizing an evening's get together in Comox, B.C. last month for folks who were stationed at Baden between 1952-60. Big turnout and many forty year old memories dusted off. A few more pounds and grey hair in evidence but, all in all, still a fine group of people. The event likely prompted, among some who attended, thoughts of doing something similar again before too much time passes. Many thanks to Chub and his helpers

Enjoyed the site very much. Brings back great memories of Germany which was a formative influence on my life, arriving as a 12 year old leaving at 15, but feeling so much older! I can see very plainly the yard outside teen town with the smoke rising above a clump of high school students having the time of their lives (Pinky, Jason, Al, Bill, Jim Ross, Steve Karen, Mitzi, Jenny, Desi and the rest. Have never before or since enjoyed so many people at once! Also some great hockey trips and school trips to Paris. I'll always remember Jeff Jackson keeping us entertained. I managed to stay in touch with a few friends such as Jim Cox, Kevin Matthews, and recently rediscovered Robyn and Jim Blackadar. Would love to track down a few who I haven't heard from such as Karen Evans, Bill Toutant, Paul Phillips or Desi Nicholls. All's well with my family including Sandra (married to Bill Hicks, one boy Matt), Jack and Lil still thriving in N.B. I am in Madison Wisonsin married to Leslie Plhak (no kids) and working for the State Department of Health as (of all things) an economist.

I was stationed with the Comm Sqn from 84 to 87. I managed to return for a short visit in 90 - but not alot had changed at that time. Those who may remember me, knew that not only did I leave Baden in 87, I also left the service. (That didn't last too long, by Nov 90 I was back in green and serving with 1 Svc Bn in beautiful Calgary AB). Looking back on my time spent in Baden, I think of the many great times we all had and given a second chance I would glady do it all again. If there's anyone out there from the old Comm Sqn who would like to drop me a line, please do so. For my former biker pals -I sold my bike in 95 and have been kicking my butt ever since!!

Pleasantly surprised to stumble on this site. I served with 2 PPCLI 86-88 and played rugby for the Baden Bayonets. Like many from that period I look back on my time in Germany as a Golden Period in my life, occasionally wallowing in nostalgia for Baden-Baden and weekend roadtrips. My girlfriend at the time, Stephanie, now lives in Toronto. I married Sherri White of Kimberley, BC, (the so-called "Bavarian City of the Rockies"!). We have a young son, Liam, and I work as a TV producer for CBC Newsworld in Calgary. Curious to hear what others from this time are up to.

Great Site! We originally were in Lahr from '80 - '83 then were transfered to Baden in August of '83 were there until the summer of '85. Rod was 1 PPCLI and was attched to 2nd PPPCLI when they arrived from Canada. Myself, I worked at the Groceteria in produce and later worked for the base print shop. It would be wonderful to hear from anyone that remembers.

Found out about the website from a former colleague of my Baden days. What a great idea and a super way to rekindle some truly special memories. We were in Band from 85 -89 during the exciting CF-18 build up days. Had an absolute ball the whole four years and still wish it could have been longer. I worked in the PAS and as deputy AMCRO at 1 AMS. Judy worked at the officer's mess. Played in the Rube band and was a volunteer announcer at CFNS. Hope everyones's memories of that gig aren't too negative. Would like to hear from former Badenites and if any of you folks were in the Honour Guard during that period and remember the good trips, drop me a line.

Hello and good day, great idea this site and it shows I'am not the only one, who is missing the german canadian association on and with the Base. I worked at the Base Hospital in Baden (from 1986 until 1990) in the orderly room at the special appointments desk. I also played the Alto Saxophone in the Baden Rube Band form 1986 until 1991. I'am looking for some "old" colleagues from the hospital and from the band, I would love to hear from you. And maybe we can meet & see some familiar faces next year at the Spargel and Reunion Fest in 2000 in Hügelsheim. Thanks for your response. Christina

I was at 4 Wing from almost the start. We had to live in England for a year while the PMQs were being built. When we finally arrived and moved into Building 12 Apt 4 (I think) the school was partially constructed and we had to take classes in an "H" hut on the base. The base pool was outdoors and later enclosed and the arena was not built. The base gym was only one building. But we had the times of our lives with people like Mike LaRue, Earl McRae, Bill Kennedy, Bill Cheek, Reg Stewart, Gail Buchan, Judy Huget, Gord Lange, Gary Smith, Judy Hale, Clive Ruggles, Joe Gordon, the Munroe brothers, Bev McArthur, Linda Bean, Robin Kent, Claudia Gray, James & Loral Dean just to mention a few. If there is anyone out there who remembers me and would like to chat please feel free to tap into my e-mail. Cheers everybody!

Calling all Baden "Brats" from the late 50's and early 60's. WHERE THE HECK ARE ALL YOU GUYS ANYWAY ??? You would have known me as Janet Arsenault back then. My Dad was stationed in Baden from 1958 to 1962. I attended Rhine Valley Park School and we lived in PMQ 30/1 Sandra Warrilow and I have remained close friends since back then; and I was fortunate enough to obtain an E mail address for Bill Tuele. But, aside from these two people, I have been at a loss as to how to get in touch with any of the "old crowd". Remember how we used to hang out around the old bunker in PMQ's and alot of us used to drag around those "cool" transistor radios of ours ? Boy, those were the days, huh! Like everyone else who has visited this site, I agree that my memories of 4 wing are my happiest ones. We are having a 4(f)wing reunion here in Comox in the month of June. SURE WOULD BE NICE TO SEE ALL YOU GUYS SHOW UP FOR IT !! I remember so many of you ! So, if you remember me, then please pick up that mouse of yours and E mail me. i would love to hear from you .

Greetings all! We originally signed the guest book in September '98, but we wanted to sign in again - so I could extend a big bouquet to Sonja and Paula for creating this HUGE internet resource for us ex-Badenites. We've had several online renunions with old friends and ex co-workers, and as subscribers to the bulletin board, we've been able to easily keep ourselves updated. We are looking forward very much, to the planned renunion at Spargelfest 2000 next June. May we suggest that anyone who's visiting the guest book, might want to subscribe to the email updates from the bulletin board, and also, if you think you can make it to the reunion, don't forget to enter you name and address on the tentative sign-up list! Happy Surfing! Gil & Sonja Strachan 1-888-394-6954

This is a great site. It sure brought back a lot of memories. We lived in Baden from 1990 to 1993. Herb worked at 439 squadron, SST and Lynn worked several places the last one was the Base Supply Closure Team and I absolutely loved it. Roy and Daniel were at the elementary school and son Matthew was born there in 1991 and went to day care later on. Would love to hear from anyone that knows us. My brother and I have both done the University thing now and have moved on to the next stages of our lives... but seeing this site reminds me that we were all a part of something very special. I'd love to hear from anyone who remembers the great times we had in good old C.F.B. Baden.

Hi There, Great site. I was born in Baden in December 1967 during the base hospital Christmas party. Unfortunately, we moved away before I was able to have any real memories of the place. All I have are pictures in my parents photo books. If anyone remembers my father, feel free to drop me a line and I will be sure to pass it along to him. He is Garnet Chapman (IE Tech) and was stationed in Marville before Baden. We left Europe in late 68 and went to Chatham NB until 76 then to Moose Jaw until 80 then to Winnipeg until 85 and finally on to Ottawa.

The web site brings back many fond memories. Yvonne and I married in the Baden Chapel 25 years ago after we met through the Baden Ski Club. She arrived in 1969 with her parents Larry and Sophie Hebert and her brother Michael. We left Germany in 1977 and eventually ended up in Moose Jaw where Larry and Sophie settled and started new careers. Michael married and settled in Moose Jaw as well. After reading the many messages on the web site we all began to reminisce. Baden will always remain a special place to all of us.

We spent 4 fabulous years (87-91) in Baden, and want to return for a visit, or maybe another posting? Hopefully my career manager might read this and send back. Its too bad they closed the base, we have many fond memories of Baden. I worked at 409 Sqn and 1 AMS, also was part of the Honor guard , and who can forget the living in the subs.

What a trip!(down memory lane, of course)I lived in Baden from 1973-1977 with my parents, Stan and Carolyn. I was 6 when we went, and 10 when we left, but I have so many wonderful memories that it brings tears to my eyes to hit this site-it's like coming home! Many thanks to those who put the site together and maintain it.

This is a great site. It was truly a trip down memory lane. Happy to find comments from many people we know. We were in Baden from 1987 - 1993 and loved every minute. I was with the fire department and Denise worked at the Base Hospital. Spent lots of time at the curling club, hockey rink, and golf club. Would love to hear from anybody who might have known us there.

Great idea. We were in Baden from 89 to 93 and have been back to the base twice. A lot of changes but it still feels familiar. Anyone out there from the Flt Sim (89-90) or SARMO (90-93)? We'd love to hear from you.

This web site has brought back such nice memories for myself and Grant. We were in Baden from 85-89. Grant was attached to the MP section and I worked for SRO (ran the orderly room) from 86-89. I have to agree with most of the comments in the guest book that indiciate that this was the best times of their lives. It certainly was for us. We talk about all the time. Our dream is to go back one day and re visit some of the old haunts. Would love to hear from old friends.
